Open MetaScope to a window without a folder and the Launchpad greets you, every common task one click away. Open a folder, edit keywords, run a search, apply a template, redact metadata, export to PDF, fix GPS, jump to the Workbench. The Launchpad is also one click away from any view via the persistent Launchpad button at the top of the sidebar, or with ⇧⌘L.

In v1.4 it is fully configurable. Toggle tiles on or off, drag-to-reorder, or reset to defaults, all from Settings or via the new Edit Tiles… button directly in the Launchpad. Twelve new tiles this cycle: Apply Template, Apply Profile, Compare, Redact Metadata, Export Metadata, Export Photos to Filesystem, Edit Keywords, Search, Analyse, Import to Photos, Fix GPS, and Doc Export. Apply Profile and Apply Template show inline progress during multi-file apply.

Pair the Launchpad with the rebuilt four-tab sidebar, Favorites, Libraries, Browser, and Photos, and you start every session from a working surface, not an empty window. Star any Browser folder to promote it to Favorites. Tap any Library to mark it as the active configuration scope. Press ⌥⌘↑ on any file to jump to its containing folder in place.

The Keyword Workbench consolidates seven previously separate windows into one tabbed surface. Open it with Tools → Workbench… and switch tabs with ⌘1 to ⌘7:

1. Vocabularies, search-first browser with faceted filters and term-level usage counts
2. Keyword Rules, with a guided 3-step creation wizard
3. Transformation Rules, 15 action types and 11 comparison operators, with a 4-step wizard
4. Activity, full query parity with the keyword log, filter by file, rule, or date
5. Sets, reusable named keyword collections
6. Custom Fields, define your own XMP metadata with type-correct editing and structured validation
7. Profiles, named metadata bundles with Smart, Fill Empty Only, Replace All, or Append merge modes

Right-click a vocabulary term to jump to rules that reference it. Right-click an activity entry to open the rule that produced it. A persistent filter pill shows the active cross-tab filter with a one-click clear.

A Keyword Inspector popover is available from every keyword chip, in the info panel, the Batch Keyword Editor, the Vocabulary Browser, and suggestion chips. It shows canonical form, hierarchy, orphan status, usage count, matching rules, and inline synonym editing for editable vocabularies.

The Batch Keyword Editor edits keywords across your entire selection in one dedicated window. See which keywords are present in all, some, or none of your selected files. A persistent Active Vocabulary strip shows which vocabularies are in scope as dismissible chips. When variant expansion is on, an inline preview shows exactly which synonyms and translations will be written before Apply.

The Categories menu stages every keyword in a vocabulary category as a single batch. Keyword Sets let you save reusable named collections and apply them in one click. Right-click any Compare Tray image for Equalize Keywords (union across all tray images), Copy → Replace, or Copy → Merge to or from any other tray image. A single Cmd+Z undoes all affected files.

Synonym-aware search expands keyword queries through vocabulary synonyms. Search for "automobile" and find files tagged "Car" when they are synonyms in your vocabulary. Works across browser search, smart collections, and export queries.

Start with 15 pre-built templates optimized for specific workflows like stock photography, nature, portraits, and events. Create your own with full control over which fields to include. Apply templates to hundreds or thousands of images at once, with preview before commit and full undo support.

Templates align to MetaScope's comprehensive registry: 125 fields across 8 categories, Camera, Lens, Capture, Location, Rights, Description, Technical, and Production and Media.

Wizard-driven workflow, choose between Portfolio (image-focused with minimal metadata) or Metadata (data-rich with thumbnails) modes. Add your custom logo to every document. Choose from 6 typography presets: Modern, Classic, Technical, Minimal, Serif, and Creative.

Select from built-in color themes or create your own. Choose exactly which metadata appears, from presets like Essentials, Technical, Descriptive, or Full IPTC, or build custom field selections. Embed customizable watermarks into your images for protection. Add professional cover pages with preset templates for title, creator, customer, and project information.

Integrated browser search, search metadata directly from the browser toolbar. Toggle between filename and metadata search with progressive density (Compact, Standard, Detailed), color-coded relevance badges, and match highlighting. Full batch operations on search results.

Compare tray, side-by-side metadata comparison for up to 12 images. Highlight differences automatically, sync selected fields across images, and export comparison reports. Cards reflow to a vertical layout at narrow widths, and a clean placeholder appears when a file is deleted or moved instead of failing to load. Cross-image keyword operations let you equalize, copy-replace, or copy-merge keywords across tray images with a single undo.

Date operations, copy dates between fields with pause, resume, and checkpoint recovery. Privacy redaction, template-driven metadata removal for GDPR, location data, and client delivery. Batch rename, stackable rename rules with metadata injection, counters, and live preview. Folder processing, process entire folders with recursive scanning and file type filtering.

Native library access, browse your Apple Photos library directly, read metadata from originals, and preview inline without ever leaving MetaScope. iCloud downloads show progress, smart prefetch anticipates your next selection, and you can export or import files between Photos and the filesystem without touching Finder.
